Keywords:
Kazuo Ishiguro, contemporary woman, gender representation, music and literature, identity, modern fiction.Abstract
This study examines the representation of contemporary womanhood in Kazuo Ishiguro‘s Nocturnes: Five Stories of Music and Nightfall. Focusing on selected stories such as “Crooner,” “Come Rain or Come Shine,” and “Malvern Hills,” the research analyzes how female characters are constructed within the intersecting frameworks of gender, identity, music, and modern social values. Ishiguro‘s women are portrayed as complex, multidimensional figures who navigate personal ambitions, emotional challenges, and shifting cultural expectations in contemporary society. Rather than being confined to traditional domestic roles, these characters demonstrate independence, professional engagement, and entrepreneurial agency.
