The category of tense, as an essential component of the language system, is expressed through verb forms, determines temporal relations in speech, and reflects the correlation of an action with the moment of speaking. Particular attention is paid to the usage of present, past, and future tense forms in French, including their simple and compound structures, as well as their distinctive features in comparison with tense systems of other languages. The study also explores not only the grammatical, but also the stylistic and communicative potential of tense forms in French. The results of the article contribute to a deeper understanding of the specific nature of the tense category in the study of French grammar.
