NARCISSISM IN INTERDISCIPLINARY PERSPECTIVE: FROM MYTH TO MODERN CULTURE
Keywords:
narcissism, psychoanalysis, personality disorder, culture, mass media, literary character, Sinclair Lewis.Abstract
This article provides a comprehensive analysis of the concept of narcissism, its origins, and its interpretation in psychology, culture, and literature. Drawing on the mythological figure of Narcissus, the study explores the essence of narcissism within the framework of psychoanalytic theories. Particular attention is given to the ideas of Sigmund Freud, Carl Jung, and other scholars, as well as the distinction between healthy and pathological narcissism. The paper also examines the expansion of narcissism in modern society under the influence of mass culture and media. In the literary section, the narcissistic personality type is analyzed through fictional characters, particularly in the works of Sinclair Lewis. The findings suggest that narcissism manifests not only as an individual trait but also as a broader socio-cultural phenomenon.
