Abstract

This article examines the development of concept theory and the issue of conceptual binary opposition in modern linguistics. The concepts of love and hatred are analyzed from the perspective of cognitive linguistics with particular attention to their semantic, axiological and linguocultural characteristics. The study also explores the representation of these concepts in phraseological units and their cultural interpretations in English and Uzbek languages. The findings demonstrate that the concepts of love and hatred form an oppositional yet interconnected semantic field within the linguistic system.
