THE PHENOMENON OF POLYSEMY IN LINGUISTIC TERMINOLOGY

The article considers polysemy in linguistics terminology as a natural and inevitable process. It demonstrates that the multiple meanings of terms are formed through their historical and semantic connections with general language vocabulary, as well as through semantic mechanisms such as metonymy synecdoche, and metaphor. The research findings indicate that terminological polysemy is in most cases neutralized by context and does not cause serious ambiguities in academic communication.
