THE ROLE AND SIGNIFICANCE OF VIRTUAL LABORATORIES IN TEACHING PROGRAMMING

Abstract

This article highlights the relevance of using virtual laboratories in teaching programming in higher education institutions, as well as their role in the learning process and pedagogical significance. In the context of rapid development of information and communication technologies, implementing innovative approaches in education is crucial for training modern specialists. In particular, for students majoring in Information Systems and Technologies, the quality of practical classes is one of the key factors ensuring effective programming instruction. The paper explains the concept of a virtual laboratory and analyzes its advantages compared to traditional laboratory sessions. Specifically, it is argued that virtual laboratories eliminate time- and location-related constraints, expand students’ opportunities for independent learning, and increase the effectiveness of developing practical skills. In addition, the study considers how virtual laboratories can support the development of students’ algorithmic thinking, problem analysis skills, and the ability to design software solutions in programming courses. The findings indicate that integrating virtual laboratories into the educational process contributes to improving the overall quality of education.
