Keywords:

The article examines documentarism as an artistic method of contemporary literature, oriented toward the comprehension of reality through fact, document, and testimony. The relevance of the study is determined by the sustained interest of modern humanities in forms of documentary writing, as well as by the expansion of the boundaries of the artistic text in literature of the late twentieth and early twenty-first centuries. The aim of the article is to identify the specific features of documentarism as an artistic method and to distinguish it from related concepts such as documentary prose, literature of fact, and non-fiction. The study demonstrates that documentarism is based on a conscious rejection of artistic fiction as the dominant narrative principle and presupposes a special type of aesthetic organization of the text in which the fact acquires artistic significance. It is emphasized that documentarism does not negate artistic quality but rather forms an alternative model of literary thinking grounded in the author’s responsibility for the represented reality and the authenticity of the material. The conclusion is drawn that documentarism is a stable artistic method that plays a significant role in the development of contemporary literature.
