ADMINISTRATIVE GOVERNANCE, POPULATION STRUCTURE, AND EDUCATION SYSTEM IN THE KHIVA KHANATE: BASED ON V. V. LOBACHEVSKY’S MILITARY-STATISTICAL ESSAY

This article analyzes the administrative governance, demographic structure, religious and cultural environment, and education system of the Khiva Khanate in the early 20th century based on V. V. Lobachevsky’s military-statistical essay. The aim of the study is to reinterpret the statistical and descriptive data of the source using a historical-critical approach and to determine its significance in historiography. The research employs source studies, comparative-historical analysis, text analysis, and content analysis methods. The findings show that the source contains valuable information on administrative transformations after 1873, population size and ethno-religious composition, as well as the activities of local schools and madrasas. At the same time, the author’s colonial perspective, critical views on religious life, and issues of statistical reliability require a critical approach to the interpretation of the source.
