DEVELOPING GLOBAL CITIZENSHIP COMPETENCE THROUGH THE SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT GOALS IN ENGLISH LANGUAGE CLASSES

Abstract

The article examines the development of global citizenship competence through English language instruction within the higher education system of Uzbekistan. The study explores the integration of the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) into the process of teaching English, based on the analysis of theoretical sources and policy documents. As a result of the analysis, a methodological model was developed that combines language development, inquiry-based learning, and reflective practice. The findings show that linking English language education with the SDGs effectively fosters communicative competence, critical thinking, intercultural awareness, and social responsibility.
