THE REFLECTION OF INTERCULTURAL PRAGMATIC DIFFERENCES IN THE TRANSLATION OF DETECTIVE TEXTS
Keywords:

This article presents a comparative pragmatic analysis of the detective works of Uzbek author Tahir Malik and the classic detective-gothic stories of Edgar Allan Poe, focusing on how cross-cultural pragmatic divergences are manifested in their respective translations. A corpus of text segments was analyzed across categories: speech acts, politeness strategies, implicature, and discourse markers. The findings demonstrate that the psychological-gothic implicature characteristic of Poe’s narratives, and the nationally embedded speech acts in Tahir Malik’s Uzbek-reality-grounded fiction, represent the areas of greatest pragmatic loss in translation.
