This article examines major theoretical approaches to syntactic structure in
contemporary linguistics. It focuses on four key paradigms – generative, functional,
cognitive, and typological – and analyzes their methodological foundations and explanatory
potential. The study highlights the multiparadigmatic nature of modern syntactic theory and
the growing tendency to integrate formal, functional, and cognitive perspectives. Special
attention is given to the relevance of these approaches for syntactic annotation and corpus-
based research. The paper also considers the comparative description of simple sentence
structures in Uzbek and English as representatives of agglutinative and analytic language
types. The analysis demonstrates that combining insights from different theoretical
frameworks provides a more comprehensive understanding of syntactic organization and
cross-linguistic variation.
