Abstract

This article analyzes the linguistic and cognitive features of metaphors used in J.R.R. Tolkien’s “The Lord of the Rings,” as well as their functional-semantic role in literary discourse. The study is based on conceptual metaphor theory and the MIPVU methodology, examining metaphoric expressions within mythopoetic space, character speech, and the author’s narrative. The findings reveal that metaphors in Tolkien’s works function not only as stylistic devices but also as universal tools for cognitive modeling of the world and the formation of mythological consciousness.
