Abstract

This article examines the structural and semantic features of necrotoponyms found in the Surkhandarya region. Necrotoponyms, which denote the names of cemeteries, burial sites, shrines, and other funerary places, form a distinct category within the toponymic system. The study analyzes the morphological structure of these units (simple, compound, and complex forms) and provides their semantic classification (anthroponymic, religious, natural-geographical, and historically motivated names). Special attention is given to the relationship between necrotoponyms and the cultural values, religious beliefs, and historical memory of the people. The findings reveal the specific characteristics of the necrotoponymic system in the region and highlight its linguistic and ethnocultural significance.
