This article analyzes key issues related to the activities of mahallas in the Jizzakh region. It examines the role of the mahalla institution in the socio-spiritual life of society, its historical roots, and legal foundations based on regional examples. The study systematizes information on the formation of mahallas in Jizzakh city and districts such as Bakhmal, Zomin, Zarbdor, and Dustlik, including their toponymic features and ethnic composition. It also highlights reforms implemented during the independence period to strengthen the mahalla system and enhance its legal status under the new Constitution. The research is relevant for scholars interested in regional history and social governance.
