This article analyzes the role of historical words, dialectisms and ethnographic terms in the language of Uzbek folk epics in studying the culture of local societies. As a high example of folk oral creativity, epics are not only of artistic and aesthetic value, but also serve as an ethnolinguistic and sociocultural resource. The article analyzes lexical–semantic groups, historical dialectisms and variability features of epic texts based on the materials of the "Alpomish", "Gorogly" series and "Ravshan" epics. As a result, it is argued that epics are a reliable source of information about local customs, social system, economic activity and ethnic relations.
