FEATURES OF MODERNITY IN 20TH-CENTURY CHINESE LITERATURE

The article analyzes the characteristics of modernity in 20th-century Chinese literature. The author examines the transition to a new stage of development triggered by interaction with Western culture and internal social reforms at the end of the Qing Dynasty. Significant attention is given to the "May Fourth" movement, which modernized language (transition to baihua), genres, and literary perspectives. The study justifies the impact of mass media, industrial printing, and the changing social status of authors on literary progress.
