Abstract

This article examines the interpretation of the image of the “boat” as an aesthetic symbol in English and Uzbek prose using a comparative literary method. As research material, the motifs of water and the boat were analyzed in Ernest Hemingway’s “The Old Man and the Sea”, Erkin Azam’s “Tanho qayiq”. The results of the study show that in English prose the boat is more often interpreted as a symbol of existential struggle, freedom, and individualism, whereas in Uzbek prose it appears as a symbol of spiritual solitude, national consciousness, and inner contemplation.
