Abstract

This article thoroughly examines the pragmatic features expressed by gestures in spoken language. It offers insights into the history of gesture emergence and the ways gestures convey diverse pragmatic meanings in communicative interactions depending on context. The article analyzes the theoretical frameworks of Janet Bavelas, David McNeill, and Adam Kendon concerning multimodal pragmatics and interactive gestures. The presented material serves as a theoretical source for linguists, discourse analysts, and pragmatics specialists in the pragmatic analysis of gestures.
