THE PHILOLOGICAL CONTENT OF THE CONCEPT OF DIGITALIZATION AND ITS SCIENTIFIC INTERPRETATION

This extensive study investigates the philological substance of digitization, reframing it as the relocation of textual artifacts into a novel functional digital milieu rather than mere technical replication. It delineates philological digitization-characterized by scholarly markup, semantic encoding, interpretative layers, and computational interactivity-from rudimentary electronic facsimiles (scans or static PDFs). Drawing on international standards (TEI), theoretical models (Pierazzo, Sahle), and concrete implementations (Chekhov Digital project), the article analyzes how digitization engenders new philological practices: dynamic collations, entity recognition, semantic search, and reproducible scholarly editions. Particular attention is devoted to implications for Uzbek and post-Soviet philology, where emerging digital corpora promise enhanced preservation and analysis of Turkic literary heritage. The research underscores the paradigm shift in digital humanities, advocating for functional, machine-readable editions that transcend print limitations.
