Abstract

The verbal, nonverbal and social communication skills of children with autism spectrum disorders are analyzed. The causes and consequences of communication limitations, ways to overcome them, and the importance of speech therapy and psychological approaches are also shown. The results of the article confirm the need for an individual approach in working with children with autism. It is argued that although the process of understanding speech is relatively preserved in children with autism, difficulties in the voluntary organization of attention, behavior and speech reactions complicate the communication process. It also highlights the limitations of symbolic thinking, shortcomings in the use of verbal and non-verbal means of communication, and insufficient formation of social interaction. The article systematically describes modern diagnostic methods and approaches aimed at assessing the communicative and social skills of children with autism and shows their practical significance.
