LINGUISTIC INTERPRETATION OF THE CONCEPT OF METAPHOR AND ITS APPLICATION TO THE QURANIC TEXT
Keywords:

This study explores the multifaceted nature of metaphor, emphasizing that its definitions are inherently complex and vary significantly across scientific disciplines and linguistic boundaries. Drawing on the research of Alvarez, the author highlights Brooke-Rose’s definition of metaphor as a process of “identification,” where a conventional word or phrase is substituted for another to create new meaning. The article argues that metaphors are not merely decorative but are essential linguistic tools used across all languages to make communication more “colorful” (figurative) and impactful. In the specific context of the Quran, the author posits that “good creative metaphors” are those that preserve subtle contextual effects while conveying divine messages in an indirect or “hidden” manner. This approach allows for a deeper cognitive and emotional engagement with the text, bridging the gap between abstract theological concepts and human experience.
