SEMANTIC AND PRAGMATIC INTERPRETATION OF NONVERBAL PHRASEOLOGISMS WITH THE COMPONENT SOURIRE

This article presents a scholarly analysis of the semantic and pragmatic features of French phraseological units containing the component sourire (smile). It demonstrates that in French novels, sourire, when combined with various verbs, functions as a communicative means of expressing affective and social relations between characters. Constructions with verbs such as adresser, esquisser, faire, arracher, and décocher reveal different semantic levels: deliberate direction of a smile, subtle external manifestation of inner feelings, emergence under external circumstances, or intense expression of intimacy and sincerity. Based on examples from literary texts, the syntactic structures and pragmatic functions of these expressions are identified. Thus, phraseological units with the component sourire exemplify polysemy in French and play a significant role in the artistic interpretation of emotional states and interpersonal relations.
