Abstract

The article examines the specificity of documentalism as an artistic principle in modern Russian and Uzbek prose. It analyzes the relationship between fact and fiction, forms of authorial presence, and methods of representing historical reality in literary texts. Particular attention is given to the comparative-typological analysis of documentalism in two literary traditions, identifying common patterns and national-cultural features. The theoretical framework is based on the works of foreign, Russian, and Uzbek literary scholars, which allows documentalism to be viewed as a multilayered phenomenon combining aesthetic, cognitive, and ethical functions. The study concludes that documentalism functions not only as a genre characteristic but also as a specific type of literary thinking focused on interpreting historical memory and social reality.
