NORM AND SUBNORM: INTERSECTING RELATIONS OF LINGUISTIC, LITERARY, AND SPEECH NORMS

The primary aim of this article is to elucidate the interrelated and intersecting relationships between the concepts of norm and subnorm across linguistic, literary, and speech levels, and to analyze their theoretical as well as practical dimensions. The study examines the correlation of norm with the language system, structure, and usage (usus) within the frameworks of European and Uzbek linguistics through a comparative perspective. The semantic scope of the subnorm phenomenon, its constituent components, and its manifestations in spoken discourse are analyzed with illustrative examples. The research employs descriptive analysis, componential analysis, a comparative-typological method, and a functional approach. The findings demonstrate that norm and subnorm should not be regarded as mutually antagonistic categories; rather, they constitute complementary and interdependent phenomena that evolve dynamically under the influence of historical and socio-cultural factors.
