Abstract

This article explores the role of Latin and Greek term elements—roots, prefixes, and suffixes—in the formation of medical terminology through an etymological lens. The study examines the structural model of medical terms (prefix–root–suffix), the semantic contribution of Greco-Latin components, and their importance for the international standardization of medical vocabulary. It also highlights the practical value of etymological analysis in facilitating meaningful term comprehension, accurate interpretation of newly encountered terms, reducing spelling and semantic errors, and improving precision in clinical and academic communication.
