Abstract

This article analyzes the translation and interpretative approaches applied by the French Islamic scholar Eva de Vitray-Meyerovitch to the heritage of Jalaluddin Rumi. The relevance of the study is explained by the fact that Rumi’s works are often perceived in simplified or romanticized interpretations within Western academic discourse. The research employs hermeneutic, comparative-typological, interpretative, and intertextual methods. The findings show that Meyerovitch’s approach allows Rumi’s texts to be interpreted as an open semantic system. In particular, the motifs of the “reed flute,” “journey,” and “teacher–disciple” are reinterpreted as functional and dynamic elements. The study substantiates that Meyerovitch’s approach represents an important theoretical model in comparative literary studies.
