PUN IN THE PARADIGM OF MODERN LINGUISTIC RESEARCH (BASED ON ENGLISH AND RUSSIAN LANGUAGES)

This article presents a comprehensive analysis of theoretical approaches to the study of puns in modern linguistics, drawing on the research of V.S. Vinogradov. The main problems of defining the pun, its relationship with related concepts (language play, wordplay), as well as the structural components of the pun according to Vinogradov's concept are examined. Special attention is paid to the classification of puns by linguistic levels and the mechanisms of their creation. Current trends in the research of puns in the English and Russian languages are analyzed, revealing both universal and nationally specific features of this phenomenon.
